Board Member

From AYSO Wiki

Board Duties and Responsibilities

AYSO requires at a minimum 3 board members and recommends a core of 7 board members. At minimum a Regional Commissioner, Treasurer, and a 3rd board role are required. At least one of those 3 must also have CVPA training. The recommended 7 roles are Regional Commissioner, Treasurer, CVPA, Safety Director, Coach Administrator, Referee Administrator, and Registrar.

Additional roles can be recruited to support the region but the 7 above are the core voting members unless an adjustment to standard regional protocols is filed.

Ensure all board members perform their duties so that they do not fall back on you as RC. It is a much easier job if your board all perform their duties.

No Board Member can use their position to benefit themselves such as being a supplier of equipment, materials, or service. This includes receiving discounts on player fees, etc., that are not generally available to all participants.

In addition to the above roles, there are countless other roles that could be filled based on your region's needs. Please see a list of helpful suggestions with existing job overviews on the AYSO volunteers site.

Board Meetings

At least one annual meeting must be held, and the other meetings are as determined by preferred regional cadence. The membership should be made aware of board meeting times and allowed to pose agenda items and questions to the board if desired.

  1. Annual Meeting
  2. Standard board meetings
    1. Monthly when in season
    2. At least every 2 months out of season
    3. Special Session can be called by RC or 1/3rd of board members but needs 3 days’ notice.
  3. Open to whole region
  4. Executive Session with only board members if disciplinary or legal matters discussed.
  5. A majority of board members represents a quorum.
