Livescan - Florida
Starting January 1, 2025, Florida mandated that all current and prospective volunteers complete a Livescan Fingerprint background screening. This screening will be conducted through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's (FDLE) Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) program.
It is crucial to recognize that while Livescan fingerprinting will be implemented, it will not replace AYSO’s required comprehensive background screening. Livescan is limited to Florida-based data and does not encompass nationwide sources.
AYSO's required background check offers significant advantages, including elements that a Livescan search does not cover, such as:
- Enhanced Nationwide Search: This feature provides multi-jurisdictional information from a variety of sources, including county records, state departments of corrections, sex offender registries, and administrative offices of the courts.
- Department of Justice (DOJ) Sex Offender Search: This search identifies registered sex offenders across all 50 states, excluding Nevada, which currently has an injunction in place.
- Government Watch List Search (OFAC): This checks for matches against respective government watchlists.
- Locator Select: This tool accesses over 2,300 booking and incarceration sites, covering approximately 80% of the incarcerated population in the United States.
With these robust screening measures, we ensure a thorough and comprehensive approach to player and volunteer safety.
