AYSO Core Program Overview
AYSO’s oldest and best-known program where players learn, grow, compete, and create lifelong memories.
AYSO Core is the foundation of the AYSO experience. The program is designed to provide a fun, age-appropriate, and developmentally challenging soccer environment while staying true to the AYSO Mission and Six Philosophies.
What is AYSO Core?
AYSO Core focuses on providing every player with a positive soccer experience through age-appropriate games, skill development, teamwork, and fun.
AYSO Core welcomes all players. No tryouts are required, and every child has the opportunity to play and be part of a team.
The program follows the AYSO Six Philosophies, which place the focus on the child, the experience, and player development.

Everyone Plays®
In AYSO, every child plays at least half of every game. No player should spend their soccer experience sitting on the bench. Everyone Plays ensures every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy the game.
Balanced Teams
Competition with the Right Focus
AYSO teams are balanced so that the emphasis stays on player development, teamwork, and fun rather than simply winning. Balanced competition creates a better experience for every player and encourages sportsmanship.
16U–19U Program
Opportunities for Older Players
AYSO offers a 16U–19U program that provides older players with opportunities for more advanced play while continuing to follow AYSO values and philosophies.
The program may include:
- Coed teams
- More flexible substitution rules
- Travel team opportunities
- Higher levels of competition
- Opportunities to play local high schools or select teams
Even as players get older, the Core Program remains rooted in fun, player development, sportsmanship, and creating a positive experience for every player.
