PlayMetrics Background Screening and JDP Transition
JDP is AYSO’s new background screening provider, replacing Sterling Volunteers. Background screening requirements will be managed through the PlayMetrics Governing System.
Background screening is required for Tier 1 and Tier 2 volunteers. For tier requirements and staff title mappings, see PlayMetrics Volunteer Positions and Compliance.
Transition to JDP
Regions will begin using JDP after access to the PlayMetrics Governing System opens in 2027.
Sterling Volunteers will stop accepting new AYSO background screening requests on March 31, 2027.
Regional onboarding instructions will be shared separately. The timing of regional JDP account setup and the onboarding form link are still being confirmed.

Completing a background screening
When background screening is required for a volunteer’s assigned role, PlayMetrics will prompt the volunteer to complete a JDP screening through the Governing System.
Expressing interest in volunteering through the Club System does not by itself trigger a background screening.
Social Security number requirement
JDP requires a Social Security number that matches the volunteer’s name. Volunteers without an SSN, or whose SSN does not match their name, cannot be cleared.
For questions about missing or mismatched information, contact cvpa@ayso.org. Do not send Social Security numbers by email.
Adjudication and screening results
JDP applies the U.S. Soccer adjudication matrix to background screening results.
There are two clearance outcomes:
- Green — Cleared
- Red — Not Cleared
Yellow, orange and brown risk statuses are being retired.
A Cleared screening result does not by itself mean that all requirements for the volunteer’s role are complete. Volunteers must also complete their other assigned membership and training requirements.
When a volunteer is Not Cleared
The AYSO office reviews results requiring action and continues notifying the:
- Section Director
- Area Director
- Regional Commissioner
- CVPA
Questions about screening results, corrections or next steps should be directed to cvpa@ayso.org.
Screening renewal
Volunteers receive a renewal email 30 days before their background screening expires.
Follow the renewal instructions and complete the required steps before expiration.
