'''Important note''': '''''You may cross-certify ONE TIME ONLY'''''. It is strongly recommended that AYSO referees who wish to become USSF certified complete their AYSO Intermediate Referee certification first and then cross-certify rather than taking a USSF Referee course.

Cross certification is available to referees of AYSO and USSF who have been certified as referees for six months or more and who are not certified with both organizations. All games officiated for AYSO or USSF may be applied toward the certification requirements of either AYSO or USSF.

In 2019, USSF restructured the entry level training for referees to effectively line up training with the type of games that referees will officiate. The reclassification of USSF’s entry level grades are as follows:

* Referees officiate in youth competitions, small-sided games, recreational and competitive youth competitions, and adult amateur competitions.
* Regional Referees officiate in competitions organized at regional or provincial level & adult games below the top division. Competitive youth and adult national competitions.
The cross-over agreement between USSF and AYSO allows:

* AYSO referees levels Intermediate or higher can cross certify over to a USSF Referee License
* USSF Referee can certify over to AYSO Regional Referee
* USSF Regional Referee or higher can cross certify over to AYSO Advanced Referee
The cross-certification agreement will transition referees back and forth to the appropriate levels. As with all referee levels in all soccer organizations, this cross-over process is the starting point for referee assignments. The referee assignors need to track and understand the experience level of their referees to make appropriate game assignments.

== AYSO to USSF ==

A coach cross-certification policy has been created for all coaches who hold a valid coaching license issued by US Soccer and AYSO will explore options regarding other soccer organizations. AYSO has reviewed the entire US Soccer coaching program curriculum and has established the following procedure for coach training equivalency.

== 2019 AYSO Coach Training Equivalency ==
The following coach training equivalency policy has been created for coaches who hold a recognized coaching license issued by U.S. Soccer or United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) and wish to participate in AYSO. Although U.S. Soccer does not have reciprocity with any other soccer organization, AYSO and United Soccer Coaches will grant reciprocity for each other’s small-sided game courses.

To be eligible all coaches must:

* Be a currently registered AYSO volunteer.
* Have completed AYSO’s Safe Haven and the CDC’s Concussion Awareness training in their AYSO training record.
* Produce a copy of their applicable license.
* Be recommended directly by the Regional Coach Administrator or Regional Commissioner of the Region in which they will be coaching – email recommendations are accepted.
* Not be suspended or disqualified from participation of any youth serving organization for any reason.
** Note: Section Coach Administrators or Trainers, Area Coach Administrators or Trainers or Regional Coach Administrators or Trainers, are not eligible for coach training equivalency consideration. All applicants for coach training equivalency consideration that hold a U.S. Soccer license or United Soccer Coaches Diploma and have met the above requirements, will transfer at the following AYSO coach level:
* U.S. Soccer Licenses:
** “A”, “B”, “C” licensed coaches will be documented as an AYSO Advanced Coach – eligible to participate in the AYSO National Coaching Course.
** “D” license coaches issued after January 1, 2013 will be documented as an AYSO Advanced Coach – eligible to participate in the AYSO National Coaching Course.
** “E” license coaches issued after January 1, 2012 will be documented as an AYSO Intermediate coach – eligible to participate in the AYSO Advanced Course.
** 4v4 grassroots license coaches will be documented as AYSO 6U and 8U coaches – eligible to participate in the AYSO 10U Course.
** 7v7 grassroots license coaches will be documented as AYSO 10U coaches – eligible to participate in the AYSO 12U Course.
** 9v9 and 11v11 grassroots license* coaches will be documented as AYSO 12U coaches – eligible to participate in the AYSO Intermediate Course.
*** *Must be in-person license.
* United Soccer Coaches Reciprocity:
** 4v4 United Soccer Coaches diplomas will be documented as AYSO 6U and 8U coaches. AYSO 6U and 8U certification will be documented as 4v4 United Soccer Coaches. *
** 7v7/9v9 United Soccer Coaches diplomas will be documented as AYSO 10U and 12U coaches. AYSO 10U and 12U certification will be documented as 7v7/9v9 United Soccer Coaches. *
*** *To obtain United Soccer Coaches Diploma, coach must activate a free trial membership with United Soccer Coaches. All documentation must be submitted to the local Section Coach Administrator for consideration and final approval.
A coach cross-certification policy has been created for all coaches who hold a valid coaching license issued by US Soccer and AYSO will explore options regarding other soccer organizations. AYSO has reviewed the entire US Soccer coaching program curriculum and has established the following procedure for coach training equivalency.

== 2019 AYSO Coach Training Equivalency ==
The following coach training equivalency policy has been created for coaches who hold a recognized coaching license issued by U.S. Soccer or United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) and wish to participate in AYSO.

Petermckinney: /* USSF/AYSO Cross Certification */

'''Important note''': '''''You may cross-certify ONE TIME ONLY'''''. It is strongly recommended that AYSO referees who wish to become USSF certified complete their AYSO Intermediate Referee certification first and then cross-certify rather than taking a USSF Referee course.

== USSF/AYSO Cross Certification ==

== AYSO to USSF ==
If you are an AYSO referee (Intermediate or higher) who wants to become a USSF certified referee, you need to complete the following steps:

# Fill out the [https://mywikis-wiki-media.s3.us-central-1.wasabisys.com/ayso/AYSO-USSF_Cross_Certification_Agreement.20241118.pdf AYSO/USSF cross certification agreement]
# If you are an AYSO Intermediate or Advanced referee, have the form signed by your Area Referee Administrator. National Referees will need the form signed by the Section Referee Administrator.
# '''''Keep a copy of the completed cross-certification form!'''''
# Register with USSF as a Referee.
# Join a local club Referee Association for game assignments.
The assignment of referees to games in USSF Youth leagues are coordinated by independent Referee Associations. You must join a Referee Association to be assigned matches.

== USSF to AYSO ==
If you are a current USSF referee who wants to become an AYSO certified referee you need to complete the following steps:

# Fill out the [https://mywikis-wiki-media.s3.us-central-1.wasabisys.com/ayso/AYSO-USSF_Cross_Certification_Agreement.20241118.pdf AYSO/USSF cross certification agreement].
# Have the cross certification form signed by your USSF State Referee Administrator. If you mail it, you should include a self addressed stamped envelope with your mailing to expedite its return.
# Complete your AYSO volunteer registration on your Region’s Sports Connect website.
# Complete AYSO’s Safe Haven, CDC Concussion Training, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Online Course, SafeSport trainings available at AYSOU. Login through your volunteer account on your local portal. If you have already completed these in non-AYSO organizations, provide your certificates to your Regional Referee Administrator for credit.
# Once you are registered as an AYSO volunteer, have your cross-certification form signed by the Regional Commissioner of the Region you registered in.
# '''''Keep a copy of the completed cross-certification form!'''''
#Submit the completed form to:
