AYSO is renowned for our robust referee program developed specifically for volunteer referees. To complement our age-appropriate programs for players ages 3 to 19, AYSO has comprehensive and practical training for today’s match officials. To our credit, US Soccer has adopted much of our training and a number of our programs as their own.

AYSO's 8U Official in-person course trains volunteers as young as 10 years old to officiate in 8U matches.

That said, most volunteers begin by taking the Regional Referee Course which provides the basic aspects of refereeing needed to officiate youth AYSO matches (10U and below) under [https://www.ayso1ref.com/ifab-lotg IFAB Laws of the Game] and [https://ayso.io/Zwhj AYSO National Rules & Regulations]. Building on an initial rewarding volunteer experience, many referees pursue upgrades to Intermediate Referee (12U and below), Advanced Referee (14U and below) and National Referee (19U and below).

To provide an upgrade path for our Youth and Adult volunteer officials, AYSO Referee Instructors work with AYSO Referee Assessors to train and mentor you as you enhance your skills as Referees.

The AYSO Tax ID is no longer able to be used to create new free Google Workspace for Nonprofits accounts. To have your Google Workspace account set up, you must meet the following requirements:

After the request form has been submitted the Google Workspace team will evaluate and verify information and respond to the volunteer. If everything is in order the Google Workspace team will add the SAR to the Google Workspace account and create the SAR User Admin account for the requester. The Google Workspace team will communicate the user credentials and documentation to the SAR User Admin. We’ll provide assistance with creating a new user if needed.

The new SAR User Admin will be responsible for adding and managing their users.

Beginning with the 2026/2027 season AYSO and other youth soccer organizations are changing to a more school year like age division system.
